Window & Door FAQ

Look at the completion date just under the date of your contract. That is when your products should be ready for installation scheduling. We will be calling you to set an installation date as soon as we have your products ready.

We offer a variety of payment methods and financing plans for your window or door project. Unified works with Wells Fargo to offer convenient financing plans for New York homeowners with approved credit. Please contact us for more information regarding available window and door financing options.

Please take down any curtains, blinds, or any other window treatments around the area that will be worked on. Security sensors should also be removed and turned off by your security company. Please provide our installation expert with a clear path to the window(s) being replaced by moving anything that may be in the way. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations from the walls close to the windows as they may fall during removal or installation of your new windows.

Since every window ordered is custom-built to fit your home and design choices, manufacturing times vary. Once delivered, the type of window being installed and the type being removed help determine the amount of time needed to complete the job. On average, each window takes about a 30 minutes of work. Trim work, capping, and cleanup will require additional time to complete. An average job will take a single day.

Since your new windows will have a vinyl frame, the opening itself and the glass will be slightly smaller. Since your new door will have a steel frame over your existing wood frame the door itself will be slightly smaller.

For example a standard 36 x 80 door is 35 3/4″ wide. the new door will be 34 7/8″ wide which is 7/8″ smaller. The new saddle allows your door to open with an inch of room to the floor so the new saddle may be higher than the old one.

No! The installation will only leave you with some sweeping & vacuuming to do. To save time you may want to cover any furniture you have close to the project with drop cloths. Remember to move all large objects and secure your valuables that are near the project. Please tell your installer if you want to keep anything on your old window or door so it does not get thrown away or damaged. You may need to fill nail holes and touch up your moulding after installation.

We only remove the small stop moulding around the window not the face moulding or stool. if the old moulding is in good condition we will reinstall it and you will only have to touch it up. if you want new stop moulding, it is FREE but you must prime and paint it since it is raw pine moulding. New mouldin can be a different size than you old moulding which may cause a problem with your window treatments. new stop moulding can only be done if requested before the job is completed.

We cannot guarantee that your air conditioner will still fit in your window. We recommend purchasing a new unit after installation of your new windows to ensure a proper fit. If your unit has no room around it now, it will probably not fit in the new replacement window we install.

We suggest you call your alarm company to determine if the alarm needs to be removed before your project begins. We are not allowed to rewire any alarm system. Since we can only cut the wires to install the windows we can not reconnect then and are not responsible for damaged wires or broken circuits.

Please remove anything around the area that will be worked on. Any exterior wiring should also be moved and turned off by your electrician, telephone company, or cable company company. We will work our best to install around, or bury any wires as best as we can but are ultimately not responsible for any wiring.  Please provide our installation expert with a clear path to the roof or siding being replaced by moving anything that may be in the way. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations from the walls as they may fall during removal or installation of your new roofing or siding.

We will always take down and put back your existing light fixtures but cannot guarantee the old lights will work properly. if you purchase new fixtures we will try our best to install them if they are not too complicated or time consuming to put together. WE are ultimately not responsible for any lights, wiring or electrical work.

You must have any obstructions removed and reinstalled at your own cost. We cannot touch anything attached tot he roof or siding and will not be responsible for the operation of any item once you put it back. We recommend calling the company who installed the obstruction to remove and reinstall once the project is completed.

During a roofing or siding job you should remove your gutters and leaders to ensure they do not get damaged. we always recommend installing new gutters and leaders when getting a roofing or siding project done because the construction could cause damage to your existing gutters and leaders.

No, but it is a construction project so there will be some nails, screws, and cuttings you may have to clean up around the exterior and in flower beds. We always try our best to clean up everything but some things are not seen. If we remove your old roof you may find debris in your attic so you may want to put drop cloths down on the floor or any valuables to protect it from the debris. If we are replacing the roof on your garage we suggest you remove your car from the garage. There may be some damage to shrubs and trees from falling debris as well as the men and their equipment. You should remove any patio furniture or other items of value from around your house.

We normally install roofing first, then windows and doors and finally your siding last. Sometimes this order has to be changed due to material availability or weather restrictions.
