I got 7 new windows installed in March. In July one of them began leaking, and now a different is leaking in August. 2 out of 7 leaking is beginning to seem like a pattern to me rather than a one-off error.

The only reason this isn’t a 1-star review is because they do offer and honor a lifetime warranty, but that process is not convenient at all. When I called in July about the leaking window, I was told I would hear back in 1-2 business days. A week later I heard nothing and called back myself. At that point I was told the earliest the repair team could come out was another week. That’s approximately 2 weeks of me doing my best to stifle the water damage being done to my house. When the repairmen arrived they also implied that it was a problem with the siding on my house and not their installation work, which now seems doubtful, considering that another window on the opposite side of the house is leaking.

That window they repaired hasn’t leaked since, but the timetable, lack of communication, and lack of accountability are all far from convenient.

It’s been 1 week since the second window has started leaking and I still haven’t gotten an update, so once again I’m stuck in limbo doing my best to stifle the water damage.

After the initial installation process went so smoothly, I had planned on using Unified for more work on my house, but I can no longer consider them a reliable option. If anyone knows of reliable contractors in the Freeport area, please let me know.

Unified was great from the estimate to installation. No issues at all, they did the job on time as promised, installation crew was efficient & cleaned up everything upon completion.

I ordered 3new windows from Unified. A representative came to the house and measured each window for accuracy. I was kept notified about when windows were being delivered. The two men who installed them were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I am very pleased with the ease of opening and closing windows. I have worked with Michael Magaraci ,Home Remodeling Expert, for over 20 years.Michael and Unified have provided excellent customer service for every project.Siding, house windows,doors and recently a garage window installation.Abad did an outstanding job with this project because he had to create a whole new frame because of the wood decay. Earl was his helper and was fantastic as they worked together to build something beautiful.The price was affordable and the window itself is really great.THANK YOU ! I had the windows, doors and gutters replaced by a Unified and I do not regret it. I had two other company’s give me quotes and I just felt comfortable and confident with the way the Unified staff did not pressure and harass me to make a decision. They guaranteed their work and the professionalism from start to finish was impressive. The workers respected my house cleaned up afterward and my house looks brand new with the windows and doors installation! I watched some of the men perform the job and they were extremely meticulously about their work. I only had one window replaced. The sales process and scheduling were fine, and I have no complaints about that.  Unfortunately, the installation itself was a different story.

During the installation, the worker accidentally tore my fiber optic line between the wall and my modem, leaving me without internet for what ended up being 2 weeks, as well as wifi connection to my doorbell, smoke alarms, thermostat, etc.

Accidents happen, so I simply scheduled a technician with my internet provider and called Unified to let them know what had occurred. Since I wasn't sure whether I'd be charged by my ISP, I politely asked if this was something a licensed and insured company would cover.

I spoke to Ray, who immediately tried to shift the blame to me. He claimed it was my responsibility to clear the area around the window. I had already moved the bed, nightstand, and curtains so that nothing was interefering with access to the window. What I couldn't move was a fiber optic cable that runs through and is stapled to the wall. I understand accidents can happen when handling heavy windows, and I wasn't even upset about the damage itself.

What I found unacceptable was Ray's response. In addition to blaming me, he suggested that if the installer had "tripped" in my home, it could have resulted in a claim against my homeowner's insurance. No one tripped. The comment came across as an unnecessary and inappropriate attempt to intimidate rather than address the issue.

I also mentioned the fresh scuff marks left on my newly painted wall beneath the window. They hadn't initially bothered me because I still had matching paint and the area would mostly be hidden behind furniture and curtains. But after being blamed for the damaged cable, I brought them up as well. After speaking with someone in the background, Ray returned to say the marks had already been there which I expected him to do. That was hard to believe, considering the untouched window had no nearby scuffs while the newly installed one suddenly did.

The damaged cable and wall scuffs were honest mistakes, and I could have overlooked both. What I can't overlook is how the situation was handled. Instead of taking responsibility or treating a customer with respect, I was blamed, dismissed, and subtly threatened. I had been planning to do additional work after seeing how this project went, but after this experience, I won't be using Unified again, nor would I recommend them to others.

Hopefully I won't have any issues with this window in the future because, while Unified has plenty of positive reviews, I also found a concerning number of complaints from customers who said things went smoothly until they needed repairs or warranty service. Based on how my concerns were handled, that possibility doesn't give me much confidence.
